Woodland Psychology - Part-time
Woodland Community College

Why take a psychology class?  I believe psychology is the MOST important study of all because it helps explain why we (and others) do what we do - often something we are completely unaware of!  Awareness and understanding of the "why" can change our behavior and our perspectives  - which might just enable us to have more tolerance and empathy for both ourselves and others.  So, no matter what your major or interests, you can apply what you learn in a psychology class to both your personal and professional life!

A little about me:  I spent most of my early years growing up in Georgia. As a young adult, I moved all the way across the world to Guam. While there I was fortunate enough to travel quite a bit - visiting areas of Micronesia, Asia, Indonesia, and Australia. After several years of many fun adventures, I returned to the states and settled in California.  Once in California, I began working at UC Davis. During my time there, I worked the first 13 years as a supervisor in the After Hours Emergency Service at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and the last seven years as an Academic Advisor for East Asian Languages & Cultures in the Languages and Literatures Department. I retired in 2017 to go back to school and work on my master's degree.

My education: I am a product of the community college system in both Georgia and California. I transferred to UC Davis and completed my bachelor's degree in Psychology with minors in both Human Development and Religious Studies.  I later completed my master's degree in Psychology at Sonoma State University with the goal to teach.  I wanted to teach at the community college level because my personal experience years ago in community college made such a difference in my life choices.

My life view:  I consider myself a lifelong learner and believe that education is key to achieving individual potential. One of my favorite quotes is from the philosopher Socrates: "The unexamined life is not worth living." To me, education can provide a lens in which to examine ourselves. And, another quote from Socrates, "The only thing I know is that I know nothing", reminds me, regardless of how much I learn, to remain humble - because there is still so much more to know and understand.
