Catherine Tamse

Aquaculturist - Fish Pathologist by training, Neuroscientist by inclination, Educator - Mentor by passion.

Welcome! My name is Catherine T. Tamse, I go by Cay, and my students call me Dr T. I have been teaching Human Anatomy as a part-time faculty at the Woodland campus since Spring 2017. Come join my class of discovery and understanding of the scientific wonders of the human body!

Science has always fascinated me, and that has allowed me to pursue various research interests, publishing and co-publishing in peer-reviewed journals over the years. Research interests include cellular dynamics in neurons and other cell types, imaging and microscopy as well as learning and memory studies using animal models. My experience in the biomedical field led me to teaching graduate and undergraduate science courses as well as advising science, premedical, and prehealth students in their academic journey. This in turn got me to another career crossroads, pivoting to student success and academic support with my recent work overseeing the Tutoring Center at WCC’s Student Success Center. In all these, I stayed true to my science core and focused on teaching and helping students.

I received my Ph.D. in Biological Sciences – Neuroscience track from the University of Rhode Island, and my B.S. & M.S. in Aquaculture – Fish Pathology from the University of the Philippines. When not in the classroom – I like staying active and adhering to an engaged lifestyle, whether enjoying the outdoors with my husband or spending time with family and friends living here in the US and abroad.
