I am a southern boy who moved to the west coast. I graduated in 1996 from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Communication Arts. I received my Master of Arts in Communication Studies in 2002 from CSU, Chico, and my education specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Higher Education in 2015. My final capstone project topic was in regard to best practices for faculty leadership training. After receiving my MA I taught full-time for CSU, Chico in the departments of Communication Studies and Communication Design. For a time I directed a nationally competitive speech and debate team, and taught courses in Argumentation, Small Group Communication, and Communication Criticism. In conjunction with this assignment,
I was also teaching public speaking and group discussion part-time for Butte Community College. I am excited to be at WCC where I can build the COMMUNICATION STUDIES program. We now offer all courses required for an AA-T degree in Communication Studies. It has been an exciting time working with my colleagues and the students on our campus. In addition to leading the communication studies program, I also serve as President for WCC's Academic Senate and formally served as WCC's Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Coordinator. I currently co-chiar our PIE (Planning and Institutional Effectiveness) committee. Other current and past WCC committee responsibilities include: serving as the Fine Arts/Language Arts Humanities representative on the curriculum committee; Accreditation Steering Committee, member of the faculty staffing committee; communication & technology committee; as well as numerous YCCD district-level committees. Off-campus I am actively involved with a number of professional communication associations such as NCA (National Communication Association) and WSCA (Western States Communication Association). Other experiences include involvement working numerous tabulation rooms for both large and small speech tournaments.
Currently, I serve as the North Representative on the Academic Senate for California Community College's (ASCCC) Executive Committee Committee. This academic year I am serving on the Legislation and Advocacy Committee and chairing the ASCCC Accreditation Committee. I am a graduate from ASCCC's Leadership Academy. In the past, I have also served on the state senate's committee on educational policies, standards & practices, and accreditation. I am also the proud father of two cats.
