Woodland Ag Technology & Science - Part-time
Woodland Community College, ,

Welcome to my webpage. My name is Jim Rumsey and I’m an Adjunct Agriculture Instructor here at Woodland Community College. I’m an Agricultural Engineer by education. I received my degrees at UC Davis (B.S. – 1965) and at the University of Arizona (M.S. – 1967).
I was born and raised here in Woodland where my family has been farming or been directly involved in California agriculture for over 150 years. My careers after college including serving 4 years in the Air Force as a Civil Engineer; providing technical services to a large cannery for 4 years and running my own agricultural consulting business for 7 years. I then joined the faculty at UC Davis for 24 years where I taught nine different hands-on ag courses including welding, farm machinery operation and equipment and technology for small farms.
After retiring from UC Davis in 2005, I continued farming walnuts on my family farm until 2012. For several years I taught welding classes and an establishing your small farm course at WCC along with doing some custom farming of walnuts for another grower here in Yolo County. I recently returned to WCC to develop and teach an online course on California Water.
I have been actively involved in local FFA coaching and judging for many years. I believe that the FFA model of education should be embraced at all levels of our educational systems.
I live in Woodland with my wife Lori of 40 years and our two dogs Lenny and Dolly. We have three adult children. Our daughter works with special needs children, our oldest son is a local Pest Control Advisor and Certified Crop Consultant, and our youngest son received his AA degree at Woodland Community College in Accounting and is employed at a local CPA firm.
